History of Dermatology Specialists

Oyster Point Dermatology was established in Newport News, VA in 1987 by Susan E. Mackel M.D. and her husband Douglas L. Nelson M.D.  After serving as staff members at The University of Virginia Department of Dermatology, their goal was to bring university-style medical treatment to our community.

In 1998, our practice expanded to include Z. Christine Marcuson M.D., a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, expanding our services to include comprehensive skin cancer management through Mohs surgery and general dermatologic surgery.  Soon after Dr. Marcuson’s arrival, we opened our second office in Dr. Marcuson’s home town of Williamsburg, VA, adding "Dermatology Specialists" to the name of the practice to reflect our expanded services and locations.

In the following years, we were fortunate to recruit Marnie D. Titsch, M.D. in 1999, Pamela B. Cornelius, M.D. in 2000, and Dr Michael White in 2011, all of whom have enhanced and expanded the expertise and services we now provide for our patients. Together we continue our mission of providing thorough, compassionate, hands on care with a focus on keeping the wellbeing of our patients as our primary concern.

Dermatology Specialists Today

Our doctors are all board-certified members of the American Academy of Dermatology, and trained at University medical centers. They maintain their cutting edge skills by regularly attending national, regional, and local meetings, and conferring with each other regarding patients with difficult to treat conditions.  They also believe in a comprehensive approach to patient care, frequently discussing complex problems with other specialists.

All of our physicians live on the Peninsula and enjoy providing their community with comprehensive and compassionate dermatologic care.
